Roderick James Isbister
December 29th, 1960 – August 9th, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Roderick James Isbister announces his sudden passing on August 9, 2025. Known to most simply as “Roger,” he was tall, handsome, and full of spirit. In his younger years, he could be found on the ice or the ball diamond, playing hockey and baseball with a natural athleticism, or around a table for a lively game of Texas Hold ’Em at family gatherings. He was also a devoted Boston Bruins fan who cheered through every season, and he loved spending time at the gym, keeping himself strong and active.

Roger had a style all his own, always dressed in the latest brand name clothing, hats, and glasses, up to date on every trend, and looking sharp wherever he went. He carried himself with confidence and warmth, and you could feel his presence the moment he walked into a room. His booming voice, infectious laugh, and quick wit made him the life of the party. He was funny and loved to tease in that unmistakable way only Roger could, always ready with a perfectly timed joke or playful remark that could light up the room. He loved conversation and could strike one up with anyone, anywhere, leaving people feeling like they had known him forever.

More than anything, Roger loved his family deeply. He was a protector, a cheerleader, and a man whose loyalty ran deep. His kindness, warmth, and ability to bring joy will be missed beyond measure.

Roger was predeceased by his loving mother, Helen; father, Cecil; sisters, Marianne, Colleen, and Rita; brothers, Verne and Arnold; brothers in law, Edgar and Terrence; niece, Michelle; nephews, Chad, Travis, Cody, and Jacob; and his beloved fur baby, Darla. He leaves behind his siblings Valerie, Ron (Maggie), Glenda (Barry), Lloyd (Shirley), Debbie, Shelly (Dennis), Dawn, and Leslie (John); his children Brenda, Sacha, and Jordan; his grandchild Kain and great-grandson Elydn; his stepsons Garrison, Garret, and Brent; brothers in law, Kenneth, and Jim; sister in law Wilma; special friends Anita Ahenakew and Emelia Villebrun; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

As he makes his journey to the spirit world, we picture him greeted with open arms by his family and friends who went before him, Darla trotting happily by his side, and his Bruins cap proudly in place. In that place beyond, his laughter is as loud as ever, his smile just as bright, and his love still felt by all who were lucky enough to know him.

A wake service will be held at St. George Senior Citizens Centre beginning Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. The Celebration of Life will take place at the same location on Thursday at 1:00 p.m., followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. After the service, a meal will be shared with family and friends back at St. George Senior Citizens Centre. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Westwood Funeral and Cremation Services, St George Senior Citizens Centre, CUMFI, and Mistawasis Nêhiyawak First Nation for their unwavering support during this time.
