Verna Irvine

1938 — January 24, 2024

With great sadness, the family of Verna Irvine (née Haugen) announce her passing on the morning of January 24, 2024. Verna was born to Rubena Ballantyne and Herman Haugen on June 25, 1938 in Prairie River, SK though for a great majority of her life she called Saskatoon home.

Verna was an intelligent woman who liked to keep her mind and her hands busy. She had many hobbies in her 85 years, with a special love for books and puzzles. She would never shy at the chance to teach a grandchild to play Yahtzee or scrabble. She proudly celebrated every milestone in her family’s lives, often tucking away a program or clipping the newspaper and filling up many photo albums. Verna had a vibrant social life throughout her years and was especially passionate about the dances that she would attend at every opportunity.

Verna leaves behind a large family to mourn her passing. Her four sons: Randall Haugen, Tim Irvine, Derrick Irvine and Jason Irvine. Her siblings Garth Haugen, Shirley Sunley, Sandra Sorba and Mary Patenaude. As well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that she will be greeted in Heaven by many members of her family, but especially her two daughters Sandra Lanovaz and Sharron Irvine.

A Viewing will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Westwood Funeral & Cremation Services, 1402 20th St.West, followed by a Come-and-Go Celebration of Life at the Saskatoon Shrine Club & Banquet Hall at 3:00PM.
